Migraine Infusions

Migraine is a neurological disorder that can be debilitating. It causes head pain, nausea,  and light or sound sensitivity, alongside many other symptoms. Preventive treatments are generally recommended for anyone living with chronic or debilitating migraine attacks.

We offer specific medication which is part of a group class of medications called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) monoclonal antibodies, and is subsidised by the PBS for the preventive treatment specifically for migraine in adults.

Treatments are every 12 weeks via intravenous infusion given over 30 minutes. Your dose may be adjusted depending on how you respond to the medication.

In order to help ensure you don’t miss a dose, The Infusion Clinic will send you and your doctor reminder letters to let you know you are due for another infusion.

In order to support kidney health, adequate hydration is important prior to receiving treatment, and it is recommended you drink at least two glasses of water both before and after the infusion.

If you think this treatment may be suitable for your migraine headaches, please talk to your GP for a referral to a Neurologist.  For these medications a referral and prescription is required from a specialist to The Infusion Clinic.

If you have cardiovascular disease, are pregnant or breast-feeding, you doctor may not recommend these medications.
